Whisky Cake and Plum Pudding

Thursday June 11, 2009

I can’t believe how fast this day went by. Work started at 8:30. I didn’t want to get out of bed to get ready for the day. I was so warm in my bed and it was so dark outside!

We had a staff meeting today. It started at 10:00 and finished at 12:30. The same people that were at staff meeting then convened in another room for lunch. They are a really neat group of people. Over lunch they started naming off desserts that I just had to try. They finally decided that the ministry team meetings (staff meetings) were going to be held at a different cake shop location for the next four weeks. I’m super cool with that! I think they are too. I have a list of foods that I need to eat or try before I come home. I don’t think I have enough time to try everything!

After staff meeting and lunch I worked on clearing up a few things and then decided to go to the shopping center (basically it’s a mall). This mall is huge, as I have mentioned before. I walked around and around and around. I bought a couple of things that I needed, then ended my trip at donut king where I bought a mango smoothie. Yummy! I then walked back to the church. My feet are not used to walking all the time in high healed shoes, so I now have a blister on one of my feet and it is very painful!

The church stores lots of biscuits (cookies) around for tea time. While getting some cookies I noticed a bunch of tins for plum pudding. I asked someone about it and they said that the Salvation Army gives them the plum puddings as gifts to be given to the elderly in the retirement villages. I asked why the church had some and they said it was because they had too many plum puddings. They then went on to say that of the tins up there, some were from last Christmas and some were from the Christmas before last. WOW! That just struck me as very interesting.

After work we came back home. I worked in my room – cleaning, sorting, and hanging up laundry. I watched some news.

At 6:30 David and his wife Heather and their daughter Joanne came to pick me up for dinner. We went to a restaurant in Patterson Lakes. They said it was in a hotel and I thought that meant a place that has sleeping accommodations as well as a place to eat. Well… guess again. In smaller cities, a hotel is more like a pub. The one we went to had a bar and a casino area along with the actual restaurant. I ordered the vegetarian pasta, but there was some spice in the sauce that was just way too strong for me. The Booker family is so much fun to be around. They are so kind and knowledgeable. We left the restaurant at 8:00 and they brought me back home. I then worked on some paper work, getting my calendar together, and organizing what I need to do with my sermon.

I plan on exploring my neighborhood tomorrow! Saturday the market, and Sunday church all day!

  1. You'll have to tell us about the news and other television shows you get when you get back. Shopping, eating, and church...sounds fun!
