Tomorrow I will have been in Australia for 2 weeks! In some ways it feels a lot longer than that.
We had staff meeting this morning. Suzanne was awesome! She brought in so many different types of cookies. She brought in Tim Tams, Wagon Wheels, and Chocolate Royals. I think my favorite was the Tim Tams.
After lunch I worked on getting a list of fun things to do as a young adult group. The church is trying to create a young adult group, but don’t really know how to get it started. So I cam up with a couple of things that the group could do. Towards the end of my working day, I created a Face Book account for Southern Community Church of Christ. That was fun.
At 4:30, Kay Davis came to pick me up. We drove out to the beach and walked along the water. I got some nice pictures. It would be so fun to live near the beach! Imagine summer evenings taking a walk down the beach with your hand in the hand of your significant other.
For dinner we had beef tips over rice. Actually, they thought I was funny saying that. They would call it a beef casserole with rice. That didn’t make much sense to me, but that’s ok. It was a fun conversation to have! The other half of the plate was piled high with vegetables. I have noticed in the most recent homes that I have been in that the host serves everyone’s plates. So you can’t serve your own or put how much you want on your plate. For me that has been some getting used to. For dessert we had meringue with heavy cream (with a yogurt consistency) with raspberries and ice cream. It was good.
At 8:45 Kay and her husband Ray brought me back home. I cleaned my bathroom and went through my balloons. I had a meeting today with the lady in charge of the holiday program and found out a lot more information about my role during the program. When we had first started conversing about the school holiday program back in April and May I was told that I needed to prepare, teach, and supply my station. I was also told that the school holiday program had 255 kids pass through its doors last year. When I was asked to lead a station, it was 2.5 hours long.
Anyways. Today I talked with the leader and found out that I will only have a maximum of 60 kids. No more than that. I also found out that I will only have the kids for about an hour, and at the end of our conversation she asked me if she could buy me any balloons. Before I left for Australia I bought so many balloons thinking that I would have so many kids and not knowing what kind of places there would be to buy balloons. Thankfully I will be able to return and get a refund on some of the balloons.
That’s it for now. 3 more weeks to go!
